• >> [SGWPL] ANOTHER ONE FOR THE GIRLS! | Mar 2025

How many fans does it take to create an atmosphere in the stands during a football match? As it turned out, it only took two boys in blue — cheering every goal LCSWT scored — to put a smile on the rest of the spectators’ faces at Choa Chu Kang Stadium on a wet Sunday evening. Two loud and crazy fellows, right there in the front, enjoying the game they love being played by the team they love. No live stream will be able to capture it. No overseas telecast will be able to replace it. Local football fandom, at its finest.

  • >> [SGWPL] Celebrate Every Win | Mar 2025

There was a noticeable difference in BKWT when they faced the ruthless goal-scoring machine that was LCSWT for a second time last season.

As LCSWT attacked the BKWT defence, an offside call was made. BKWT No.5 celebrated the call — with arms raised — applauding the linesman. Shortly after that, another offside call was made. BKWT No.5 applauded the call again, rallying her teammates on.

Even though BKWT went on to lose the game 11-0, I want to believe that they won small, individual battles not captured in the scoreline and left the field proud as a team.

    • K.O.: BKWT 0-0 LCSWT

    • 2000hrs K.O.: Players are lining up on the pitch. Let’s goooal!!!
    • ? to K.O.: It looks like the K.O. timing has been pushed back. All the pickle ball courts are being used atm.
    • 30 mins to K.O.: The Lightning Warning System has just been turned off. Both teams are out on the pitch doing warm-ups.

Thus begins the bi-seasonal competition between this account and the official LCSWT Instagram account to see who can keep track of all of the goals scored.
    • 45 mins to K.O.: If you add up all the jersey numbers of the LCSWT Starting XI, you get 295.

      Averaeg = 295 / 11 = 26.81
    • 2 hrs to K.O.: This season’s BKWT is not like last season’s BKWT, judging from their first match. More attacking, more fearless, more (half) chances created. They will need every ounce of belief in themselves to get through tonight’s game.
    • 4 hrs to K.O.: As per changes to the rules and regulations to make the league more equitable (discussed last season), LCSWT Head Coach Daniel Ong will have to recite the names of all of the goal scorers in correct sequence after every BKWT vs. LCSWT game. Every mistake is minus one goal from the LCSWT total.

  • >> [SGWPL] 30% Possession ALBWT | Mar 2025

The latest examples of teams winning despite having only 30% possession include PSG 0-1 Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 (5 Mar) and Nottingham Forrest 1-0 Manchester City (8 Mar).

For Liverpool, ceding that much possession to a pacey PSG side was probably a conscious tactical choice made specifically for that game — they could have been more aggressive with possession if they wanted to. For Nottingham Forrest, it was business as usual and their preferred way to roll. Crucially, 30% possession and defence in numbers allowed both teams to shut out the opposition and then leverage their transitional qualities to win the game.

Does ALBWT have the DNA to play 30% possession football? They certainly have speedy transitional players like ALBWT No.10 Maisarah and No.18 Takashima. It all begins with acknowledging the nature of the game at hand: playing against teams like LCSWT is like playing in a cup final, where defence is paramount and conceding a goal is a mountain-sized problem to overcome.

And at this point, it’s not even theoretical — GIWT has already demonstrated that 30% possession football works against LCSWT. Sometimes, you just have to tell yourself: “Look, it’s just for this one game. Next game we go on a scoring spree, okay?”

  • >> [SGWPL] Close The Gaps | Mar 2025

One simple question every Head of Women’s Football at a typical Football Association should ask, as a self-check, is: “Is there parity between Men’s football and Women’s football? If no, why not?”

Apply that question to everything — professionalisation of the league, training allowances, facilities allocation, coaching and training resources, matchday experience, media coverage. Everything.

In what areas is the difference the biggest? Which of the gaps is the Association looking to close in the next one, three, or five years? If it can’t be closed, is there a good reason why?

    • 10 mins to K.O.: lol there is a small army of ALBWT fans here at the ALBWT side of the stands. The ALBWT lineup is not weak.
    • 15 mins to K.O.: ALBWT No.4 Sun Jie, No.14 Kana Kitahara and No.99 Nani-san are practicing *long* passes to each other. Hm…
    • 60 mins to K.O.: There is only one place to be at tonight. It’s the battle of the Wünder-As vs. the young ones. I don’t know who decided that this — of all matches — would make a good season opener, but it is what it is.

      Let’s get this party started!
    • 3 hrs to K.O.: “Starting in January, [ALBWT] has been training three times a week, fine-tuning their approach and strengthening their squad.” FAS match preview
    • 4 hrs to K.O.: Oh… muddy field.

Do you know what style of play is really good on muddy fields?
    • 6 hrs to K.O.: “Albirex are a tough team, and it will be a challenge, but I have full confidence in our ability to perform — especially with how hard Coach Daniel Ong has been pushing us over the past few months.” – Priscille Le Helloco (LCSWT match preview)

      Months?!
    • 10 hrs to K.O.: Will ALBWT play 30% possession football? Can ALBWT play 30% possession football? Smash-and-grab Hoofball requires absolute elite mentality and spiritual fortitude to pull off.
    • 12 hrs to K.O.: “We will win the league and compete in the ACL✊!” – ALBWT No.18 Ruriko Takashima (Instagram)

      New Wünder-A., who dis?
    • 13 hrs to K.O.: Last season, when ALBWT No.17 Dhaniyah fired in a long-range shot to give ALBWT a 1-0 lead vs. LCSWT, it felt like LCSWT’s season was unrevealing in slow-motion, having lost to GIWT a few weeks earlier.

But then, LCSWT roared back with three goals and won the tie 3-1. Keep calm and carry on, as they say.
    • 23 hrs to K.O.: The big one. I expect to see a lot of SAWFC players in the stands rooting for ALBWT. Y’all are still friends, right? 😬

New ALBWT transfers Sitianiwati and Siti Wan Nabilah are a formidable midfield duo — but can they last 90 minutes of play? They are going to have to find some extra mileage because the LCSWT bench is stacked.

  • >> [SGWPL] The Story Continues | Mar 2025

What? So, every LCSWT head coach has to win the league title three times in-a-row before he or she can win the Coach of the Year award? How come no one tell me? What do you mean it’s in the rules and regulations?

    *Opens FASWPL_Rules_and_Regulations.pdf*

Oh, like that ah. Got friendship discount or not? If we go the whole season unbeaten — just two-in-a-row, can? Hello? Hello?!
