• >> [SGWPL] Match Commentary: TBWT 0-4 GIWT | 19 May 2024, 1930hrs, ITE College East

    • FT: TBWT 0-4 GIWT
    • 90+2′: GOOOAL FOR GIWT!!! GIWT No.10 twists and turns inside the box and fires off a shot straight into the centre of the goal and scores!

      TBWT 0-4 GIWT
    • 87′: GOOOAL FOR GIWT!!! GIWT No.24 lifts the ball up high inside the box on their left and it somehow passes over the TBWT GK and lands nicely into the goal. [edit: The official GIFC account says No.10 scored the goal].

      TBWT 0-3 GIWT
    • 83′: GIWT No.20 has taken over the wide player on the right role. No.7 playing more central/left of centre now.

      TBWT 0-2 GIWT
    • 82′: First yellow card of the game goes to GIWT No.16 for a collision when challenging for a header near the TBWT box.

      TBWT 0-2 GIWT
    • 76′: The GIWT No.6-7-10 combination down the right has definitely been practiced on during training. No.7 must have sent in at least 4 crosses by now.

      TBWT 0-2 GIWT
    • 73′: GIWT No.3 is running a near one-woman show at the back, instantly snuffing out any TBWT attempts at breaking out.

      TBWT 0-2 GIWT
    • 66′: GOOOAL FOR GIWT!!! No.16(?) floats a ball into the box from their right and No.17 scores!

      TBWT 0-2 GIWT
    • 62′: GIWT No.7 playing more wide on the right vis-a-vis in the centre in 1H. Additionally, she was part of a four-men team to stretcher off an injured TBWT No.2.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 57′: GIWT No.10 gets into the box with the ball on their right; she crosses it for No.22 to head it in from close range but the ball hits the crossbar and goes out of play!

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 55′: TBWT No.22 just robbed the ball from GIWT No.7 on GIWT’s right side near the half way line.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 53′: GIWT No.17 takes a low shot from the centre of the box but the TBWT GK catches it with both hands.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 49′: GIWT No.17 takes a low shot from the centre of the box but the TBWT GK catches it with both hands.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 48′: GIWT starting the second half with two chances already. TBWT has left their No.11 out in front.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 46′: GIWT No.22 Wan takes another shot on the left inside the box and the TBWT GK parries it away for a corner.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 2H K.O.: The TBWT coach seemed calm and collected during the interval while preparing his side for the second half. Will the TBWT defence continue to hold out against the Eagles? Pretty much the same GIWT team for 2H.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • HT: TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 44′: Argubly the best run of the game so far: GIWT No.10 takes the ball from just after the half way line through a few TBWT players to the edge of the penalty box and shoots! But the ball is saved.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 42′: GIWT players are trying to rile each other up. Clearly, 1-0 isn’t enough for them.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 39′: GIWT No.22 Wan shoots from just inside the TBWT penalty box on their left but the ball goes out for a corner (on the left). No.7 takes it and no goal from that either.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 35′: The TBWT defence is very compact across the semi-circle of their penalty box. None of the GIWT forwards have been able to turn and get a shot off.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 33′: Did you know that GIWT No.11 is a graduate of ITE College East? Facebook (the Blue one) is amazing.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 31′: So far, forward passes from GIWT No.7 is being dealt with quite effectively by the TBWT defence. No real attempt at goal for the past ten minutes.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 27′: There is a thick five player TBWT backline outnumbering the four GIWT offensive players atm.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 25′: GIWT No.7(!) and 11 are doing a stellar CDM job at the moment. Holding the ball up while trying to find their forward players.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 22′: TBWT is choosing to leave their No.3, 8 and 11 in relatively forward positions. They might threaten GIWT’s back three at some point in the game.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 18′: GIWT No.11 has taken two shots at goal from outside the box so far. The last one just went wide on the left side of the TBWT goal.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 15′: The lack of jokes in this commentary is telling of the fast-paceness of the game. Not much fouls, just free flowing football happening on a cool Sunday night.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 8′: GOOOAL FOR GIWT!!!

GIWT No.7 takes a corner on their left—nothing comes from it but the ball somehow comes back to her just outside the six yard box (on the left).

She shoots high and the TBWT GK gets a hand to it but the ball drops backwards into the goal.

      TBWT 0-1 GIWT
    • 6′: GIWT with the majority of play and possession so far. Mostly down the left-hand side.

      TBWT 0-0 GIWT
    • 3′: GIWT No.22 Wan just sent two crosses into the box from their left side with both her right (first) *and* left (second) foot.

      TBWT 0-0 GIWT
    • K.O.: TBWT 0-0 GIWT

    • 5 mins to K.O.: It’s a perfect night for football. It’s windy!
    • 25 mins to K.O.: TBWT and GIWT are both out on the pitch warming up.

It looks like a full GIWT squad tonight. Regulars (to me) No.2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 13, 17, 22 are all on the pitch. Friend of the account No.11 Ma Ma Mas is playing too!

TBWT has lost to LCSWT, ALBWT and HUWT by 5-0, 6-0 and 5-0 respectively. They did beat BKWT 5-0 so it will be an interesting match up against a fairly attacking GIWT.
    • 4 hours to K.O.: The weather looks great! It’s hot like hell and there are dark clouds gathering in the North-West region.. but don’t worry, Singapore is a very big country. ITE College EAST will be just fine.
    • 12.5 hours to K.O.: After last evening’s stellar performance by the SGWPL teams, the League vs. League score is: SPL (3) 13-13 (2) SGWPL!

SGWLP has the advantage of one more game in hand going into Sunday’s fixtures. Let’s goooal!!!
    • 13 hours to K.O.: Good morning! It’s the last #SGWPL game of Matchweek 8 and GOOOAL FC will be there at ITE College East to do some aeroplane spotting while providing live match commentary.

Follow along here for the latest updates.
  • >> [SGWPL] Match Commentary: LCSWT 9-0 BGTRWT | 18 May 2024, 1700hrs , CCK Stadium

    • FT: LCSWT 9-0 BGTRWT
    • 89′: GOOOAL FOR LCSWT!!! Solo effort from No.2 MT who shoots from just next to the BGTRWT’s semi-circle right of centre and leaves the BGTRWT GK with no chance to respond.

      LCSWT 9-0 BGTRWT
    • 83′: GOOOAL FOR LCSWT!!! No.2 MT runs into the BGTRWT box and cuts the ball back from just outside the six yard box on their right to a waiting No.9 RE, who buries it.

      LCSWT 8-0 BGTRWT
    • 80′: GOOOAL FOR LCSWT!!! The ref awards a penalty to LCSWT. No.20 DC takes it cleanly and gets LCSWT’s seventh.

      LCSWT 7-0 BGTRWT
    • 79′: The play is opening up with BGTRWT No.9 pressing forward occasionally into LCSWT’s half. A bit of back-and-forward happening but it’s very much still LCSWT’s game.

      LCSWT 6-0 BGTRWT
    • 71′: BGTRWT No.14 with a solid tackle right at the edge of the BGTRWT box on their right to prevent LCSWT No.7 from advancing. She falls to the ground afterwards and has to be sub’ed off.

      LCSWT 6-0 BGTRWT
    • 68′: GOOOAL FOR LCSWT!!! No.7 passes to an unmarked No.9 RE in the BGTRWT box and RE scores with a strong shot right in front of the BGTRWT GK.

      LCSWT 6-0 BGTRWT
    • 62′: GOOOAL FOR LCSWT!!! No.2 MT send a cross into the box from their right and No.7 gets a touch in the six yard box to score from close range.

      LCSWT 5-0 BGTRWT
    • 61′: I need to up the joke count. This laptop is too heavy to think of funny things to say.

      LCSWT 4-0 BGTRWT
    • 60′: Sir Alex once said, “When you field teenagers, you will eventually have to deal with teenager problems.” TBF he was talking about boys with dyed hair and tats, so…

      LCSWT 4-0 BGTRWT
    • 58′: BGTRFC have been furiously defending their box for the past ten minutes(?). No goal from LCSWT despite trying really hard.

      LCSWT 4-0 BGTRWT
    • 50′: LCSWT No.12 JA comes off and is replaced by No.9 RE. Unleash hell.

      LCSWT 4-0 BGTRWT
    • 48′: GOOOAL FOR LCSWT!!! LCSWT No.16 takes a shot from outside the penalty box slightly to their right of centre and scores!

      LCSWT 4-0 BGTRWT
    • 2H K.O.: Ref blows are whistle and we’re off.

      LCSWT 3-0 BGTRWT
    • HT: LCSWT 3-0 BGTRWT. It’s going to get ugly when LCSWT No.9 RE comes on as a super sub, isn’t it.
    • 44′: LCSWT No.20 DC takes a free kick inside the semi-circle of the BGTRWT’s box. The ball hits the wall and play continues.

      LCSWT 3-0 BGTRWT
    • 41′: BGTRFC No.15 drives all the way to the edge of the LCSWT penalty box on their left before losing the ball. That’s the furthest BGTRWT has made it to the opposition half.

      LCSWT 3-0 BGTRWT
    • 37′: BGTRFC No.6 just beat LCSWT No.2 MT in a 1v1 in the centre of the BGTRWT half. Oh well, no one is perfect.

      LCSWT 3-0 BGTRWT
    • 34′: BGTRFC are still committing three players to go forward which gives them *some* chance of catching LCSWT on the break. Or for LCSWT to exploit the gap.

      LCSWT 3-0 BGTRWT
    • 30′: GOOOAL FOR LCSWT!!! No.12 JA takes a free kick just outside the penalty box (almost exactly where the earlier FK was taken) and scores!

      LCSWT 3-0 BGTRWT
    • 27′: LCSWT No.20 DC with a free kick just outside the penalty box on their left. She shoots, the ball hits a BGTRFC player and bounces out for a corner kick.

No goal from the corner kick either.

      LCSWT 2-0 BGTRWT
    • 22′: Despite the scoreline, BGTRFC are showing fight in wanting to get out of their half. They have not threatened the LCSWT goal yet though.

      LCSWT 2-0 BGTRWT
    • 16′: GOOOAL FOR LCSWT!!! No.12 JA gets a shot off inside the box and the BGTRFC GK gets a foot to it but the ball crawls over the goal line for LCSWT’s second.

      LCSWT 2-0 BGTRWT
    • 11′: Yup, that’s how you stop LCSWT No.2 MT. With a poor tackle.

Refree gives LCSWT a free kick just in front of the centre circle. LCSWT No.4 takes it and sends it into the box with a low shot but no goal.

      LCSWT 1-0 BGTRWT
    • 6′: GOOOAL FOR LCSWT!!! No.19 scores the first goal of the game. I didn’t see it though (still getting used to the laptop).

      LCSWT 1-0 BGTRWT
    • 5′: LOL LCSWT No.4 takes a direct free kick from near the centre circle and almost gets it in. The ball lands on top of the BGTRWT’s net.

      LCSWT 0-0 BGTRWT
    • 1720hrs K.O.: The game begins! Can LCSWT survive without the surgical strikes of No.9 RE? Stay tuned to find out.

    • 15 mins to K.O.: The refs have called both teams to come off the pitch in order to start the game. Let’s goooal!!!
    • 25 mins to K.O.*: Both teams are out on the pitch warming up now. Hoping for a 1730hrs start. The stands are starting to fill up with die-hard fans (~20pax).
    • 15 mins to K.O.: The official LCSWT Insta account has released their team sheet… and it’s a surprise package of players who would usually only turn up in the 2H. No.6, 11, 12, 19 start. Second place top-scorer in the league No.9 RE is on the bench.
    • 30 mins to K.O.: No go. The next lightening alert check will be at 1700hrs. So it’s story time!

You know that pre-season friendly when BGTRFC first XI took on the LCS U10s? Their match was delayed by an hour because of the rain. Truly, one mark of a professional is keeping your mental sharpness while all sorts of things threaten to disrupt your normal pre-game routine.

Sad to say, the match did not go well for the LCS U10s.
    • 40 mins to K.O.: OMG do you know what is worse than not being able to swim? Dry lessons.
    • 50 mins to K.O.: Guess what? There is hardly any rain but the lightning alert is on. Bored kids in their swimwear are pacing up and down outside the swimming pool gentry area because they got their afternoon cancelled too. Poor kids.
    • 90 mins to K.O.: Welcome! If you are here for the first time, this is my amateur attempt at raising the profile of the #SGWPL until some real journalists take over and cover the games.

As always, here are the ground rules for the live match commentary:

      1) There will be no pics or vids. Just text and really half baked jokes and football analysis.

      2) There will be jokes. However, the more LCSWT score, the less time I have to type out jokes. So if you want to see more jokes, tell them to chill!
    • 3 hours to K.O.: HAVE YOU HEARD THE LATEST?! THEY ARE GIVING AWAY A “MOST UNDERRATED PLAYER” AWARD FOR #SGWPL MATCHWEEK 8! WATCH THE GAMES AND NOMINATE YOUR PLAYER CHOICE HERE!!!
    • 8 hours to K.O.: What do I know about LCSWT (based on a sample size of two games watched)? I know at least the following:
      • No.4 and No.30 can kick long balls into the mixer.

      • No.23 is really effective down the right flank. She does not always get the support once she reaches near the goal line outside the penalty box though. Too fast?

      • No.2 is truly unplayable. She can dribble the ball through 4-5 players from the halfway line to the side of the six-yard box all by herself and cut it back for someone to score.

      • If No.16 tries to score from outside the box, the game is basically over and they are (at least) 10-0 up.

      • Also, three of their four goals from SAWFC 0-4 LCSWT came from dead ball situations.

      • And they did not score any more goals for the last 30 minutes of the SAWFC vs. LCSWT game after their even younger subs came on. No.20 was running around bossing the midfield trying to feed the subs up front but the SAWFC defence held up.

    • What do I know about BGTRWT? I don’t know.. I haven’t watched them yet (ref: hobby!). Hopefully, the hope of LIVE streaming will be realised one day, someday soon (at this point even heavily delayed video replays will prove extremely valuable to garnering a bigger audience).
    • 11 hours to K.O.: SPL is off to a good start this matchweek after last night’s GIFC 4-4 BGTRFC game. SGWPL will just have to work harder to score more goals.

      30′: SPL (1) 8-0 (0) SGWPL
    • 19 hours to K.O.: LCSWT is out with a 610-word prematch report. At $0.50 per word, that report would cost just over $300 to produce; control of The Narrative™ and getting to tell your story tho—priceless.
    • 24 hours to K.O.: SAWFC No.10 Sunisa Srangthaisong has *152* caps since 2006 for the Thailand Women’s National Football Team. Friends, what are you even doing with your life?

By comparison, SG GK Hassan Sunny has 113 caps to date.
    • 27 hours to K.O.: A friend of the account, who wishes to remain in the shadows, says that the other match that is happening on the same day has former World Cup players from Japan and Thailand in their squads!

Unfortunately, I can’t watch that game… so we’re back to the existential question: if there was a game where former World Cup players played against each other, but no one watched it, did the former World Cup players really play against each other?
    • 30 hours to K.O.: I just found out from friend of the account @deeppaann that this week is SG Kindness Day (yes, I know). So LCSWT, please set a good example and be kind. Thank you-you. ❤️
    • 31 hours to K.O.: So, in their last game vs. SAWFC, LCSWT scored a penalty due to a hand ball incident and two long-range direct free-kick goals… meaning SAWFC only lost 1-0 to LCSWT in open play? Interesting… 😎
    • 32 hours to K.O.: New home, same live match commentary.
