FT: LCS 0-2 BGT
BGT to win it comfortably as payback for Shah Shahiran’s straight red card (issued during the previous SG Cup Final in May last year), while LCS ponder how many defenders and defensive midfielders it needs to deploy in order to stop BGT’s in-form attackers.
Prematch Thoughts:
- LCS: 5-4-1 formation. Lennart Thy as the lone centre forward in a box striker role (instead of Anderson Lopes).
- LCS: Plan A would be to absorb pressure inside their own half (with everyone behind the ball), win back possession, before launching a counter-attack.
- LCS: Aerial ball receivers in Diogo Costa (LWB) and Shawal Anuar (RF) will benefit from long passes from the LCS backline.
- BGT: 4-3-2-1 formation (in possession), 4-4-2 / 4-2-4 (out of possession). Koya Kazama shifts up to join centre forward Hide Higashikawa in defence.
- BGT: Majority of short plays will come via the left flank with Trent Buhagiar (LF) and Takeshi Yoshimoto (LB) combining. Irfan Najeeb (RB) shifts inward to form a back three. Right side forward Glenn Kweh (RF) as isolated attacking outlet.
- BGT: A successful regional campaign (so far) based on playing lower possession football would have hardened BGT’s overall patience and defensive mentality.
